Second round of Regional Governors: Identity cards may expire 12 months after the date of issue
The identity card or passport are the only valid documents to vote according to Chilean regulations. No other document or proof is considered valid.
The law, however, allows both the identity card and the passport to be expired for up to 12 months. For the second round of elections for Regional Governors, this means that they may be expired as of November 24, 2023.
If on the day of the election, and in the opinion of the polling station, there is a discrepancy between the information in the Table Register and the voter’s identity, the president may request the assistance of an identification expert from the Civil Registry and Identification Service.
The Electoral Service has also made available on its website a Protocol of action for cases of voters with change of name, registered sex and change of surname, which can be viewed by clicking here.
